Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a speaker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource for education that examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the executive director. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop media. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed towards women as well as those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Alongside being a popular public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university she became fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. The ambitious lady planned to create an online series that examined gender representation in games, but was the target of an online campaign to harass her. The woman was not stopped from the attack, and actually, it just reinforced her drive to become a media critic and feminist. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feministism, she's awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational non-profit explores the role of women in the pop-culture narratives.
